Story of Let's Play Basketball Founder

"I didn’t start Let’s Play Basketball

just to teach people how to play basketball."

I started it because I believe basketball can teach people far more than what happens on the court.

The Beginning

When I was younger, basketball was simply part of everyday life. I grew up playing on neighbourhood courts, shooting hoops with friends and neighbours until it got dark and it was time to head home.

As a teenager, I became involved with the People’s Association children’s basketball programme and started volunteering to organise basketball competitions and community events.

What started out as something I loved doing slowly opened my eyes to something else — the joy of helping others discover and enjoy the game.

From Playing to Coaching

I started coaching when I was 20.

Since then, I've had the opportunity to work with school teams, clubs, community programmes and players of different ages and backgrounds.

Over the years, I've learnt that coaching isn't just about teaching someone how to shoot, pass or defend.

It's also about helping a young person become more confident, learn to make decisions, work with others and deal with setbacks.

Basketball is important. But what they learn through basketball can be even more important.

Why Let’s Play Basketball?

The idea behind Let's Play Basketball is actually quite simple. I wanted to bring back some of that feeling I had growing up.

A ball. A court. Friends. And the freedom to play.

But at the same time, I wanted training to have purpose — where players can have fun, challenge themselves, learn to think and understand the game better.

That's what “Experience Basketball Differently” means to me.

It's not about making basketball complicated.

It's about making every session meaningful, enjoyable and worthwhile.

More Than Just Basketball

As a coach, I hope every player takes something away from the game — even if it's not always a new basketball skill.

Maybe it's the confidence to try something they were afraid of. Maybe it's learning how to handle losing.

Maybe it's learning to listen to a teammate. Maybe it's simply discovering that they really enjoy playing.

For me, those moments matter.

A Bigger Purpose

I want to do more than develop players. I also hope to help develop coaches who genuinely care about teaching, learning and giving back to the game.

Because if we can develop good players and good coaches, we can continue building a stronger basketball community here in Singapore.

“Hey, let's play basketball?”

Today, that invitation is still at the heart of everything we do. And honestly, that's still what it's all about.
